Hey, I’m Kim!

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Global Ethical Change at the University of Alabama in 2000. This interdisciplinary degree helped me learn how to create large scale social change. After a few years, I realized that while I enjoyed the macro side, I wanted to be able to help individuals make changes in the same way I had learned to work with larger systems. I returned to school and completed my Master’s in Social Work in 2007 with a specialization in child welfare. Post graduation I worked in Child Protective Services while also supporting women transitioning out of prison and back into society. I obtained my clinical license in Georgia in 2014 and, after moving up to Maryland, became licensed here as well in 2016. I founded Circumference Counseling the same year and entered private practice.

Specializing in trauma treatment protocols, I completed training in EMDR in 2016. After meeting multiple people struggling with out of control sexual behaviors in my practice, I began to explore the connections between childhood trauma and this particular addiction. I quickly realized this was a very specialized field that required rigorous training to effectively treat and began my journey to obtain my Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) in 2017. While I obtained my CSAT in January of 2019, I continue to seek out learning and supervision opportunities in this growing and changing field to help me provide cutting edge treatment to my clients.

"It’s completely changed my life for the better. I don’t think you’ll ever understand how many times you’ve pulled me from the brink, given me helpful knowledge, and just generally gave me perspective that I never would have come to on my own. I’m forever grateful."

"Before working with Kim I was really socially anxious and extremely sad, she helped me to work through the causes of what led me to that place and I’ve been able to enjoy life a lot more. I am extremely grateful that I get to work with this therapist."

"She has been one of the best therapist I’ve ever had. I feel like I have grown tremendously since working with her. I know that if I meet with her I’ll eventually feel more peaceful, calm and confident in my decisions."

My Approach & Values

I have an eclectic background with a primary focus on treatment of trauma and sex addiction. I believe your therapist should challenge you to push past your comfort zone in a safe and trusting environment. I can teach you the skills you need to explore your emotions without being overwhelmed as you work toward creating real and lasting change in your life.

I find that trauma-informed, CBT techniques grounded in attachment theory are a good fit for most of my clients. I specialize in EMDR, a therapy technique to help process difficult or traumatic events and I have advanced training in treating dissociative disorders.  I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and have experience working with both addicts and partners.
